Musa, Kablu enter snooker semi-finals – Yahoo! India News
Pool Palace snooker parlour cueists continued to excel as the Tenth Pool Palace Snooker Challenge Tournament completed an exciting week of snooker action. With the snooker doubles event in progress, host doubles pair of Musa and Kablu combined good potting with intelligent tactical and safety play to get past the strong pair of Gaurav and Himanshu in straight frames by 67-54 and 74-44 points to enter the semi-finals.
Though Gaurav and Himanshu played well but Musa and Kablu showed strong determination and potted the balls almost on all vital moments of the match to come out unscathed.
Urfi and Tayyab also gave a fine account of combining well to beat Adil and Rahul in straight frames by 64-50 and 68-51 points. Favourite pair of Ashar and Rehan of the Cue Strokes parlour were in their elements as they exhibited sound potting to drub the pair of Monu and Pahwa also in straight frames by 72-25 and 69-14 points while in another straight frames victory the duo of Shadaab and Arshad gave a superb display of solid potting to down the pair of Aman and Irfan by 64-47 and 87-51 points.
However, the best match of the day was between the pair of Ashar and Rehan against the pair of Fazal and Saif. Saif and Fazal began the match well by taking the vital black to take the lead of 1-0 while winning the first frame but Ashar and Rehan fought back resolutely to wrest the second frame winning on the decisive black ball. This reverse seemed to deter the losers as Ashar and Rehan came out top in the thrilling three frames encounter by 61-64, 83-78 and 72-43 points.
The other results:- Taran and Sameen beat Kuldeep and Shubham by 57-42, 57-76 and 72-35 points; Shaadab and Arshad beat Rahul and Shaikh by 83-36 and 81-32 points; Rahul and Adil beat Vicky and Nikhil by 73-65 and 78-47 points; Gaurav and Himanshu beat Abhishek and Avinish by 70-42 and 63-33 points; Gaurav and Himanshu beat Siraj and Anwar by 83-44 and 76-62 points.
Central Zone triumphs
CENTRAL Zone, Lucknow team bagged 55 golds, 52 silvers and 26 bronze to collect a maximum of 488 points and stake claim at the winner's trophy in the sports meet of the state forest department. The Uttar Pradesh Van Nigam team with 22 golds, 16 silvers and 12 bronze stood second while West Zone, Meerut with 10 golds, 4 silvers and 9 bronze came third.
Sachin and Kirti Srivastav were declared 'Best athlete' in the men's and women's section, respectively. Bharat Lal and Rekha Gupta were adjudged best athletes in the veteran's category in the men's and women's section, respectively. Mahendra Singh won the 'Best Men's Senior Veteran Athlete' award while Dhurander Prasad clinched the 'Best Strongman' award. Prashant of Central Zone, Lucknow won the 100m race to emerge the fastest athlete of the meet. In Chess, Avani Kumar and in badminton (women) Kirti Srivastav claimed the top honours.
Naveen shines
COMMENDABLE batting by Naveen Ahuja (71 not out) helped LVCA in defeating Microlit XI by seven wickets in the final of the Amar Satya Memorial Cricket Tournament at Pt. RB Tiwari Stadium, Lucknow on Sunday. Naveen's unbeaten 71 came off 52 balls which featured seven boundaries and two lofty sixes.

AN unbeaten 88 run knock by Jitendra helped Mega Trends in defeating Eram Club by 21 runs in their league match of the Sunday Premier League at LDA Stadium, Lucknow. Jitendra's 88 came off 61 balls which featured 14 boundaries.
