Men on here keep accusing feminists of being masculine, and wanting feminine men, so I was just wondering.

Should men and women compete in the same actual events in the forthcoming olyimpics

I mean competing against each other and would this mean no female would get a medal or even make it to a final?

If a boat was sinking and they were evacuating women and children first…?

I'm curious as to what feminists would do in that situation. I don't think there's anything wrong either way, but would you evacuate early with the women and children or would you stay back with the men because you want everyone to be treated equally?

Obviously not many people would stay back in the name of equality, but what would you think of the whole “exacuate women and children first” thing?

Most women are less than eager to get trained in self-defense but we all need some tips on simple ways to avoid becoming a victim and repel instead of attract attackers. Fortunately, sometimes the simplest things work the best.

Attackers prefer victims go quietly so no one notices what is going on and gets a description of them resulting in their arrest. Now that we know what they are looking for, we can be the opposite. Here are a couple things to note:

Nine out of ten people gasp and hold their breath when startled or scared so attackers have the advantage already

Making noise startles the attacker (turnabout is fair play) and calls attention to your situation

When you gasp and hold your breath, the adrenaline that is automatically produced to deal with stress freezes you quicker and longer, and that’s when the majority of people get hurt. Adrenaline is produced to give you the fight or flight option. It helps you think clearly, run faster and strike harder under stress. In order for it to circulate and help instead of hinder you, you must be breathing. This is where making noise comes in…

Yelling is a great way to make noise and get your adrenaline circulating at the same time because you expel all the air in your lungs and automatically take another breath. Viola! Circulation, adrenaline, strength, speed, clear thought, a startled attacker and everyone looking your direction! Notice I said, “yelling” and not “screaming?” That is because screaming is weak and defensive and yelling is strong and offensive. The three best things to yell: Stop, 911, Back Off!

Other great ways to make noise:

Honking your horn

Sounding your vehicle alarm

Throwing or knocking over something loud (like metal)

Honking your horn is probably not what comes to mind first when you are startled unless you are startled by another driver, right? But just think about how much attention a honked horn gets…and that is the idea after all; even if it is about your personal safety and not about your car.

We know that most people hate the sound of vehicle alarms and rarely even consider that something is being broken into or stolen but again, think how many people are alerted by the sound. You can be sleeping at night with your vehicle in the garage or driveway and sound your alarm if an intruder breaks in.

You know the movies where someone is running from a bad guy through the kitchen of a restaurant, knocking over metal tables and shelves behind them? Not only does this make an instant obstacle course but it makes a heck of a lot of noise in the process. Maybe you are in a store and rake your arm down a shelf pulling products onto the floor to make noise and draw attention.

There is nothing safe or heroic about going quietly with an attacker in the hopes he or she will not hurt you. In fact, it can easily cost you your life. If someone wants to take you against your will, their intention is to hurt you.

Teach your kids this safety tip too. I can’t tell you how difficult it is to get some children to practice yelling in my Safe Kids Class! They have been programmed that yelling gets them in trouble and they need to know it can get them out of trouble as well.

Remember attackers want quiet, uninterrupted time with their victim and the longer you are with them, the more power they have. Make a lot of noise and be more trouble than you’re worth.

And ALWAYS trust your gut feelings to know what to do because sometimes submission is the best option. A good question to ask yourself is, “How is the best way to handle this situation?” Your brain will answer whatever you ask it. Make sure and ask good, empowering questions to get the same kind of answers.

Bonus Safety Tip: Some things we’re taught not to do, like being loud, are the very things attackers take advantage of. And I invite you to be even safer by visiting http://www.PersonalSafetyTrainer.com to grab your sample Safety Quick Tip and the option of receiving a free one each week + bonuses.

Why are women generally more talkative than men?

I'm not saying that ALL women talk more than men, there's always exceptions, but in general I do find men to be a litte quieter than women, I went out with my friend and his girlfriend, and she was saying, “You guys are so quiet! Us women, we never shut up!” She was almost annoyed at our quietness.

Confident men, colleagues and friends are attracted to women with confidence and attackers are repelled by them. Confidence, hmmm, seems simple enough but is it? Self-image is what we think of ourselves. Self-esteem is how we feel about ourselves and self-confidence is how we act.

Can confidence be faked? Temporarily yes, but if it comes across as arrogance, it can attract attackers rather than repel them.

I address confident body language in my article, “Women’s Personal Safety Secret #2,” which is important in repelling attackers. Below is another way you can become more confident, attracting the right people – repelling the wrong ones.

“What Would You Do?” Can Repel Attackers and May Save Your Life!

We hear about crime and often do nothing to prevent it from happening to us. A good habit to get into is thinking about what you would do if the same situation occurred in your life. Although a bit scary, thinking it through has several benefits.

You’ve acknowledged your vulnerability therefore, you don’t look oblivious like most people do (attackers love oblivious people)

You have a plan of action which gives you confidence (attackers are repelled by confident people because they themselves are weak).

You are more aware of your surroundings and therefore may avoid situations of vulnerability (attackers hate aware people).

When you have thought things through, you walk more confidently and body language is the most common way attackers select victims.

So there you go. Just by simply thinking through a situation with you at the center, you benefit by being safer immediately attracting people who are confident themselves and repelling weak ones who will drag you down and or victimize you. Just being dragged down is a form of attack because it weakens you mentally and emotionally, which in turn, weakens you physically.

Gross Seekers and Arrogance

Although gross curiosity gives birth to rubber-neckers at crash and crime scenes, the magnitude of the situation seems to bounce off of those same people who very likely have their heads in the sand, ignoring their own vulnerability. The “head buried in the sand” syndrome causes those buried to look insecure in a dangerous situation or arrogant if they try to fake confidence. Arrogance is insecurity personified and looks opposite of confident.

As a paramedic in my early 20′s, I still get asked, “What is the worst thing you ever saw?” Obviously, the question begs for therapy rather than an answer but the people who ask it are usually careless in their lives and know little about avoiding dangerous situations. Although unfortunate for them (and hopefully not tragic) this makes it easy for us to set ourselves apart from the general public by looking and being confident. Just the knowledge of what you would do in a certain situation makes your body language stronger without you even knowing it. Well, now you know it!

Remember:

Attackers may be male or female of any age

Attacks may be verbal, mental, emotional or physical

Attackers have a plan of attack – do you have a plan of escape?

Confident or Insecure?

Confidence can keep you out of dangerous situations and improves your physical health as well. It is obvious how confidence attracts confident people, friends, significant others and great coworkers, isn’t it?

If you are a person who attracts people who are insecure, remember that your own confidence has to be in place to attract a different kind of person. You can only help an insecure person so much because self-image, self-esteem and self-confidence are all inside jobs. If you get dragged down, your self-confidence will suffer.

The concept of personal safety being quite dependent on confidence may be new to you but I’m sure you’ll agree it makes sense. Remember that confident men, colleagues and friends are attracted and attackers are repelled by a confident woman.

Bonus Safety Tip: Holding your head up is the most important aspect of confident body language. And I invite you to be even safer by visiting http://www.PersonalSafetyTrainer.com

Back with more news for you today. It’s amazing how much good information there is on this stuff out there if you know where to look. Three in particular that I found really valuable were…

Ladies, though you might feel empowered with knowledge, how do women's magazines/media make you truly feel?

The media preys on our insecurities to keep us buying their products.

For example, men's magazines will make a man feel empowered, but appeal to his competitive nature, making him subconsciously insecure as if most men (and women) out there are better than him and if he's not on his game he's going to fail in life. Topics: “Why you were dumped again,” “How to improve your sexual inadequacies,” “Why she treats you like child,” “How to dress, talk, walk, think,” etc.

There's truth in much of it, but the way it's presented I think generates unnecessary insecurity in a man (that may not have initially been there) to ultimately generate a consumer cycle, which then works on mass scale b/c if every man knows more than you (or most men at least think this), all men who want to be successful will subscribe to this “knowledge” or risk being left for dead.

All of this insecurity creates social pressure which creates bad decisions which creates failed lives (betrayals, divorces, asshole kids, etc.). And there are products and services excusively directed at each stage of your life as it fails to try to keep you thinking you're happy.

How critical was life before mass consumerism?

Do you recognize this tactic in the advice you read?

Women: Define heroism without mentioning feminism or sexism or dropping in any barbs about men?

Risking your life to save someone else and speaking out against injustice and cruelty.

Fellow women, ask yourself, “What is in my wallet?” knowing that several crimes can take place from just one stolen wallet. Of course you probably have a drivers license and credit card(s), cash, etc. But do you actually know what you would lose if your wallet was stolen this minute?

Wallet Safety Tips:

Photocopy the front and back of every card in your wallet.

Keep the copy in a very safe, yet accessible place.

Optional: Hand deliver a copy to a close, trusted friend or family member who you would call in an emergency.

Hour One Is Critical

The first hour is crucial when your personal information has been lost or stolen. The emergency numbers on the backs of your credit cards, etc. are important for you to access quickly. Attackers are known for first filling up their gas tanks and then going on wild shopping sprees after stealing credit cards. This is common in the first hour and that is why you need those numbers handy.

The reason for the option of giving a copy to a trusted someone is that if you were to become missing, all of those account numbers can be tracked that much easier. Remember to hand deliver this info as email and text messages are not secure.

Identity Theft Prevention

It is always preferable to have a good identity theft prevention company on your side. There is plenty of information in your wallet to enable this crime to take hold of your good name and the life you have built. Many identity theft victims’ identity is never restored completely. Just imagine that someone has purchased a house or vehicle with your name and credit and you are the one left to prove that you are the real you!

I tell the story of my own identity being stolen in my TeleSeminar series. Fortunately, my situation was much less serious than many but scary all the same! Women are the promoters of safety in the workplace and family so please share this safety tip about copying the cards in your wallet with others. It will help all of us to be safer and less likely victim targets of thieves.

Bonus Safety Tip: Small purses are less likely targets for purse snatchers. And I invite you to be even safer by visiting http://www.PersonalSafetyTrainer.com

You will get a FREE Safety Quick Tip and 3 FREE bonuses to help you to be safer. There are audios and documents waiting there for you right now!

Whether we are traveling to visit family members, purchasing gifts we can’t afford, attending parties out of obligation or wishing we had loved ones to enjoy the holidays with; holidays represent an emotionally charged time of year for everyone. We know that the traditional view of family members enjoying one another isn’t always the way it happens. In fact, the majority of family get togethers are emotional and stressful so realize, if yours is like that, you’re not alone.

Since attacks may be verbal, mental, emotional or physical, we all need some Holiday Safety Secrets to make this time of year safer all around, don’t you agree?

Holiday Safety Secret – Verbal

Realize that a comment made to you or about you is always about the person making it, not about you. It is either a positive comment coming from a place of admiration or a negative comment coming from a place of insecurity.

Knowing this helps you to take a deep breath and either say, “Thank you,” to a nice comment or say nothing to a ban one, considering the source.

Holiday Safety Secret – Mental

People who know us also know “which buttons to push” if they want to mentally attack. For example: a coworker looking up and down you and then snickering will likely send any one of us into the ladies room to check our makeup, hair and outfit. Realize (you’ll see a trend here) a mental attack is all about the attacker who is trying to control the “victim” by inspiring uncertainty because he or she feels out of control of their own life at the moment of attack.

Holiday Safety Secret – Emotional

Make a list of who you feel good around and who you feel drained by. Invest time only with those you feel good around; that is your gut feeling telling you who is safe and who isn’t (emotionally, mentally and or physically). If you must work with people you would not ordinarily choose to spend time with, realize that you have a choice to either absorb their negative energy or “put up your mirrors.” Putting up mirrors consists of visualizing yourself with mirrors around you facing out. When someone sends negative energy your way, the mirrors reflect it back to them 10 fold and you are safe emotionally. I learned this from an Indian Medicine Man 25 years ago and have used it successfully ever since.

Holiday Safety Secrets – Physical (much more info about each of these available)

Remember that thieves and other types of attackers love the holidays because we are all distracted and make for easy targets.

Stay OFF your phone when walking in a parking lot and have it in or on your clothing instead of in your purse.

If a thief wants your purse give it up quickly and count your blessing that all you had was a thief.

Use confident body language (head high, shoulders back, looking side to side) to repel attackers.

Carry a very small pouch inside your clothes with ID, cash or one credit card.

Cover the key pad when entering your PIN at checkout.

Check in and under your vehicle before entering and lock the door before it is even closed.

Remember that the cover of darkness allows many more attacks this time of year.

Wrap Up Holidays can be fun and happy when you protect your personal space and emotions. Remember that safety often has to do with swallowing your pride. Let the snide comment go without a fight and let your purse go to avoid escalating an attack. It will never be fair that other take from us but we can attract safety instead of attackers with these simple tips.

Bonus Safety Tip: We breathe 34,000 times per day but when we are startled or scared, 9 out of 10 of us gasp and hold our breath. That is when most people get hurt. And I invite you to be even safer by visiting http://www.PersonalSafetyTrainer.com to grab your sample Safety Quick Tip and the option of receiving a free one each week plus bonuses.
Fellow women, listen up!

We know that everyone needs safety right? Women are often the ones who promote safety at work, at home and with friends. Teens and kids don’t always know they need safety measures and men feel safer than we usually do because of their gender. The truth is, attackers and victims are both male and female.

We can all be approximately 95% safer from creeps and criminals just by learning these Top 5 Women’s Personal Safety Secrets. How? Prevention is 90% awareness. So if you know the five secrets, you can’t help but be at least 5% safer!

The 3 main reasons you haven not heard “The Secrets” before:

The secrets are simple and we tend to make things much more complicated than they need to be – When everyone learns how simple personal safety is, there will be far fewer victims.

Most people avoid the topic of personal safety due to fear of acknowledging their vulnerability to crime – Burying our heads in the sand and hoping the subject of crime disappears makes us more likely targets of attackers.

The focus of most safety information is negative, random safety tips and ineffective self-defense techniques – Safety must be taught in the positive what to do manner!

Top 5 Women’s Personal Safety Secrets (to share with loved ones)

Understand the “attacker” mindset – The key to knowing where someone is going is to know where they are coming from.

Confident body language – Speaking this language can save your life.

Your voice is your #1 weapon – Knowing the power in your own voice and how to use it effectively is vital to preventing yourself from becoming a victim.

Establish and enforce personal boundaries – Knowing what is acceptable and unacceptable to you before something happens allows you to protect your personal space.

Trust your gut feelings above all else – The job of these survival instincts is to keep you alive.

As you can see, each of these five personal safety secrets is very important and may, individually, repel attackers. However, putting them all together and practicing them into habits can provide you with a tremendous amount of safety, peace of mind and empowerment in your daily life.

Bonus Tip: Telling someone what to do instead of what not to do gives you a much greater chance of obtaining the results you desire. And I invite you to be even safer by visiting http://www.PersonalSafetyTrainer.com

What is a safety razor?

Kind of a stupid question, I know, but I ask because I'm going to be traveling with only carry-on and I'm going to California, so I need my razor. TSA says “safety razors” may be carried on. But what's a safety razor? Thanks much!

Is New Delhi safe for girls?

YAH!! it's really safe other than in obvious situations…

but if you're catching a taxi/rickshaw alone it's always safer to find a Sikh turban wearing driver… the most trustworthy =) the people of delhi are lovely.. in fact India is amazing, so enjoy yourself!

There is a valid reason why a child is often a better judge of character than their parent or any adult for that matter. Gut feelings are survival instincts we were born with and their job is to keep us alive. A child’s gut feelings are raw as they have yet to be taught to gloss over them with politeness or push them aside opting instead for logic. In fact, gut feelings have absolutely nothing to do with logic, which is why they are so often ignored. The problem with ignoring them is that they are the one and only trustworthy mechanism for your personal safety or that of your child.

Uncle Bob Story:

Let’s say Uncle Bob comes to visit every Thanksgiving and stays with your family for 4 days. The whole family adores Uncle Bob as he is fun, always has a good joke and is willing to pitch in and help.

Your 5-year-old comes to you and says he doesn’t like it when Uncle Bob sits him on his lap. You may say something like, “Oh, Uncle Bob is only here for a few days and wants to spend time with his nephew,” or “That’s silly. Go play in your room.”

Let me ask you two questions:

Are you going to force your child to be near people he is uncomfortable with so that you don’t feel embarrassed?

If Uncle Bob is a pedophile, are you going to get the vibes not being in his age range or is your child, who is in his age range?

See how easy it is to tell (and show) your child that his survival instincts are unimportant? Do you think he will come to you again in the same situation? Do you think your response could possibly cost him his innocence?

The point I’m making is brutal because of its importance and intensity. We have to reawaken our sensitivities as adults because society has programmed us to avoid making waves. I’m sure you agree that making waves is far superior to enabling predators.

Remember, pedophiles groom children and families to trust and believe in them before they attack. They often target single moms and enter the relationship as the savior, the hero. They provide comfort, stability and a father figure…until they attack. Then people’s lives are changed forever.

What if Uncle Bob is not a pedophile; your child just does not like him, you ask?

Your child will have to go to school and work with people he doesn’t like. Home is supposed to be a safe haven. Letting him know that his feelings are valid and of the utmost importance by helping make other arrangements for Uncle Bob will raise his self-esteem and enhance your relationship with him forever.

There are many excellent Uncle Bobs out there just as there are many excellent men who date and marry single moms. The key is to trust your gut feelings and pay especially close attention to your child’s. Facilitate the growth and awareness of their survival instincts and in so doing, you will automatically acknowledge and trust your own, which will keep the entire family safer from creeps and criminals.

What if you haven’t followed your gut feelings and nothing bad has happened to you?

Super! But when you acknowledge your gut feelings, which you have about every person, place or situation, you will know when one is exceptionally strong. Follow that one. It could save your life or that of a loved one.

Pet People

If you have pets, you’ve probably noticed their behavior around people who turn out to be detrimental is or was different than around those who are of good character. That is because animals rely on their survival instincts (gut feelings) to stay alive and never question them. If they are uncomfortable, there is no question and they do not stick around to be polite. We can and should learn a lot from our pets.

Tips to help you nurture your child’s gut feelings:

Ask your child how he or she feels about people you came in contact with throughout the day.

Ask your child which person he or she would feel comfortable asking for help if if was needed.

Have a secret code word so that your child can alert you when he or she feels uncomfortable around someone so you can take action and remove yourselves from the situation immediately.

Make a pact with your child that you will believe him or her when the topic is safety and that they will always tell the truth about safety situations. In my Safe Kids class, we have both parent and child actually sign an agreement. It makes both parent and child feel more accountable and comforts the child.

Always opt for your child’s comfort with people first and yours second.

Now you know why children are often better judges of character than adults even though they may not know what it is they are doing.

Bonus Safety Tip: Children also need to be taught confident body language since pedophiles are experts at reading it and select victims based on weak body language.

All women need to realize that not only does self-esteem take a beating after being victimized but low self-esteem attracts those who do the beating! I would not have entered either the date rape situation or the domestic violence situation in my life, had I had healthy self-esteem. Let’s help prevent people we know from going through the violence cycle of low self-esteem – violence – lower self-esteem – more violence – even lower self-esteem – even more violence, and on and on.

The Connection Between Self-Esteem and Attackers:

Attackers, whether verbal, mental, emotional or physical, have low self-esteem

Attackers look for people weaker than themselves to attack so they are sure to “win”

Self-esteem shows on the outside in body language

Attackers are experts at reading body language

If your self-esteem is lacking, attackers can tell

Tips for Raising Self-Esteem for Safety Purposes

Realize that attackers are cowards and the purpose of any attack is get a “power fix”

Attacks are all about the attacker, not about the victim; they are not personal

Simply demonstrating confident body language can repel an attacker

Know that you already have higher self-esteem than most attackers, even on a bad day

You are absolutely just as valid, important and necessary to the world as anyone else

We are each on a different path to arrive at love and peace and harmony; your path is your path

When you find a new or better path, you can take it regardless of what anyone else says

You are perfectly capable of living your own life, choosing your own friends and making good decisions all by yourself

You are worthwhile and have the right to do whatever is necessary to protect and defend yourself

We would be less concerned about what others think of us if we realized how seldom they do. Everyone’s favorite topic is themselves. When we talk about others it usually has to do with how they affect us. Often times it is to get attention, which goes back to us and our self-esteem. Complaining about someone usually means they have something we want, looks, attention, confidence, career; again the focus is actually us.

When we realize that we are on the right path for wherever we are at the time to learn what we need to learn and that everyone is equal in value, we do some wonderful things:

We relax

We feel empowered

We claim our right to protect and defend ourselves

We get a burning desire to help others see their own worth

We increase our self-esteem ten times over

Some days seem like a roller coaster ride in the “Self-Esteem Amusement Park.” This is, unfortunately, normal so we need to continuously remind ourselves of our value and place in the world. Surround yourself with friends who understand you and bolster, instead of attack, your self-esteem. If you feel bad about yourself around certain people, get them out of your life ASAP. It can be challenging to stay positive and impossible if someone in your life is disempowering (bullying) you.

If you don’t have any great, positive people in your life right now, be your own best company and you will attract them. They are worth the wait!

Bonus Safety Tip: Be sure to bolster your loved ones’ self-esteem so they can be safer from attacks too. And I invite you to be even safer by visiting http://www.PersonalSafetyTrainer.com to grab your sample Safety Quick Tip and the option of receiving a free one each week + bonuses.

Dating nightmares not only include disease, unwanted pregnancy, rape and domestic abuse but assaults on your self-esteem and emotional and mental well-being. Most of the deep scars we have from past relationships are not physical. So knowing the how to pick the right people to date is vital! We all have stories about the date that went bad or the guy who never called back even though we really hit it off. We wonder what we did wrong, what we could have done differently, why he didn’t like us. Was it something we said or did? Was it what we wore or that we were too forward or not forward enough? What if he was just the wrong person? What if what we did wrong was pick him to go out with in the first place? Or what if we didn’t pick him at all but rather went because he picked us? Is that dangerous? Absolutely, and I’ll tell you how to avoid it!

Three Safe Dating Tips For Women:

Healthy Self-Esteem – you are already complete so looking for someone to “complete you” is just a romantic (yet pathetic) line in a movie.

Trust Your Gut Feelings – these will always lead you the right way and it doesn’t matter if they make sense at the time or not.

Personal Boundaries – establish and enforce these or you will continue down the road of dating nightmares!

Doing one, two or all three of these will change your dating life (and non-dating life) tremendously! I know because I’ve been there and my poor decisions took me down the road of rape and domestic violence. Pay attention to someone who’s been there so you never have to be! Women, defend and protect your mental and emotional well-being and prevent dating nightmares by dating the right men instead of just “men” and share these safe dating tips with women you care about.

Bonus Safety Tip: Healthy men find confidence the most attractive thing about a woman; weak men find insecurity most attractive. And I invite you to be even safer by visiting http://www.PersonalSafetyTrainer.com
