Believe it or not there are several things that women can do to be pro active in preventing sexual assaults and possibly rapes. Knowing how an attacker thinks can work to your advantage. Potential victims can learn from these facts and put a plan in place to be better prepared to fend off an assault.

THE LOCATION. The most common place for an assault is a grocery store parking lot. Attackers figure that a victim’ hands and minds are distracted and are easy prey. Knowing this can make you better prepared and more on guard to fend off an attacker.

THE TIME. The most common time for an attack is early morning. Think about it-there are less people around and thus less witnesses. Knowing this can put you on guard if you must be out and about in the early am.

THE LOOK. It is a fact that women with long hair specifically ponytails or braids that can easily be grabbed are more likely targets than women with short hair. It is just a fact! Attackers also look for women wearing loose fitting clothing.

THE FIGHT. It is also a fact that if ANY resistance is in the offing, most attackers move on quickly. They are expecting little or no resistance. When they encounter resistance it takes more time which increase the chances of discovery.

So FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT.

THE CARRY. How you carry yourself makes an impression. If your head is up and you walk confidently and quickly you are less likely a target than someone with their head down and walking slowly-just a fact.

WHAT YOU CARRY. If you carry a pepper spray, taser, or stun gun and know how to use it not only will it give you a better sense of confidence but will also give you time to escape if you need to use it.

Learn from these facts about assaults and develop a plan to protect yourself.

Please Note that even though pepper spray is legal in all 50 states, some states and cities have restrictions. Some states and cities have restrictions on stun guns. Check with your local police department. Literally thousands of police departments carry and use pepper spray and stun guns. Why wouldn’t you?

I would like to show you some women’s self defense moves that you can use to protect and defend yourself against a male attacker. I will give you valid tips and advice if you ever encounter a mugger, rapist, or murderer. I have two distinct techniques I would like to talk about, mainly being the eye gouges and groin strikes, kicks, and pulls.

Even though these women’s self defense moves work, you have to remember that you have to follow through with other techniques and moves to further damage and injure your attacker. One move I recommend is ripping your fingernails into your attackers eye sockets and rip them apart. You can collect DNA under your finger nails and hurt him good. You don’t have to have super long nails, but as long as they are over 2mm you will be good.

You want to have a list of women’s self defense moves memorized and big key component on male attackers is the groin attacks and strikes. If you can kick him in his genitals all the more power to you. You can also follow through with biting, pulling, punching, ripping, etc. This move can be used in a variety of different ways so don’t forget to follow through and cause as much damage as possible.

Another women’s self defense move I recommend is smashing the adams apple and throat of your male attacker. Since women are genetically smaller then males you need as many techniques as possible to injure your attacker. Hitting him in the throat can interrupt his breathing. Oxygen is essential to fighting so if you can cut his supply off you will have better chances of escape.

Remember that you always want to follow through with your initial attack, followed by more including punches, kicks, elbows, head butts, knees, whatever you need to do to cause as much damage as possible so you can escape a heck of a lot easier. Using the groin attacks techniques, the throat smash and eye gouge will give you an advantage in any physical encounter! I hope you enjoyed these womens self defense moves!

Another thing I recommend is that you download my 2 special self defense eBooks! Inside I reveal my brutal and battle tested advice on combat and self defense training taking you to a whole new level of walking away a winner of a violent attack.

Broadly speaking, when justice and right are denied to a person over a longer period of time, the person is left with two options: bear the situation patiently, or the reaction is anguish, and that reaction, in the process culminates into terrorism. Besides other things, spreading of communal hatred, religious frenzy, separatist tendency etc. are the tools which terrorists generally use. Guns too are used to achieve the so-called specified mission. Fanaticism, extremism, radicalism, separatism, militancy, activism etc. are its other names or manifestations. This is one side of the picture of terrorism. (Terrorists fighting for a genuine cause i.e. liberating themselves, their society/country from the oppressor/ perpetrator). Another side of the picture is disgusting and questionable. Over the years terrorism has emerged as a systematic use or threatened use of violence to intimidate a population, community or government and thereby effect political, religious or ideological change just to achieve personal gains. Modern terrorism has resorted to other option of intimidation, i.e. influence the mass media, in an effort to amplify and broadcast feelings of intense fear and anger among the people. Needless to mention here that acts of terror are carried out by people who are indoctrinated to the extent of following a strategy of dying to kill. They are the ones who have become pawns in the hands of their masters who direct their paths, sitting in the comforts of far off places with all the facilities available to them. Masters have their vested political interests while as pawns seemingly have nothing to gain except suffer for a cause about which they themselves don’t know or know very little.

Terrorism in Kashmir is almost 18 years old now and has likeness to the second side of the picture. It has a history long enough to be traced from the date when partition was forced resulting in the emergence of two nations- India and Pakistan- after the sub-continent freed itself from the colonial rule of the British Empire. It may not be out of context here to probe into the consequences in detail that gave rise to terrorism in Kashmir. But again, before that, giving a brief introduction of this widely known beautiful valley would be too apt.

Kashmir-Paradise on Earth-(Switzerland of Asia) Nature’s grand finale of beauty is a masterpiece of earth’s creation of charm and loveliness. Famous for its beauty and natural scenery throughout the world and for its high snow-clad mountains, scenic spots, beautiful valleys, rivers with ice-cold water, attractive lakes and springs and ever-green fields, dense forests and beautiful health resorts, enhance its grandeur and are a source of great attraction for tourists. It is also widely known for its different kinds of agricultural products, fruit, vegetables, saffron, herbs, and minerals, precious stones handicrafts like woollen carpets, shawls and finest kind of embroidery on clothes. During summer, one can enjoy the beauty of nature, trout fishing, big and small game hunting etc.; during winter climbing mountain peaks and sports like skating and skiing on snow slopes are commonly enjoyed. In addition to the above, Pilgrimage to famous religious shrines of the Hindus and the Muslims make Kashmir a great tourist attraction. About Kashmir Sheikh Sadie a great Persian poet is believed to have said, “If there is any heaven on earth, it is here in Kashmir, in Kashmir in Kashmir only.”

Apart from natural beauty, Jammu and Kashmir has a unique cultural blend which makes it different from the rest of the country (India). It is not only distinct in cultural forms and heritage, but in geographical, demographical, ethnical, social entities, forming a distinct spectrum of diversity. The people of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh, all follow diverse religion, language and culture, but continuously intermingling which symbolizes Indian Unity amidst diversity. Its different cultural forms like art and architecture, fair and festivals, rites and rituals, seers and sagas, languages and literatures, embedded in ageless period of history, speak of endless unity and diversity with unparalleled cultural cohesion and amicability. Kashmir has been a great centre of learning. A treasure of rich Sanskrit literature is to be found here. Early Indo-Aryanic civilization has originated and flourished in this land. It has also been embracing point of advent of Islam bringing its traditions of Persian civilization, tolerance, brotherhood and sacrifice.

After the British withdrew from the Indian subcontinent in 1947 and India and Pakistan emerged as two separate countries, princely states were given an option to choose the country they wanted to stay on. Obviously, the states falling geographically within had no other option but to merge with the country they were situated. Border states like Kashmir, Jodhpur etc. took time to come out with their firm decisions probably because they wanted to enjoy the status of an independent Statehood. In the case of Kashmir, where Maharaja (King) Hari Singh was the ruler, situation worsened considerably. Territorial disputes over Kashmir had already started brewing-Pakistan claiming that Kashmir should go to his side since Muslims were in majority there. Apprehending that Maharaja might opt for an accession to India, Pakistan prepared for an aggression in a bid to capture the State forcibly hoping that masses, mainly Muslims, would support its mission but that didn’t happen. Secular forces headed by the then popular mass leader Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah fondly known as Sher-i-Kashmir motivated the Kashmiri people (Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs) to rise to the occasion and stand united to counter and frustrate the evil designs of the enemy who was marching to the capital city Srinagar indulging in bloodshed and mayhem. A new slogan echoed the entire valley: “Hamlavar khabardaar, hum Kashmiri hai tayaar—Hindu Muslim Sikh Ithaad, Naya Kashmir Zindabaad—“ Beware you attackers! We Kashmiris are ready to counter you—Long live the Unity of Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs-!!— At Hazuri Bagh, Srinagar before a large crowd on October 1, 1947, Sher-i-Kashmir proclaimed :”Till the last drop of my blood, I will not believe in two-nation theory.” It was a rebuff to Mr. Jinnah-father of the nation of Pakistan- who was watching the developments so closely from his country side. Finding their designs on Kashmir not fructifying, Pakistan rulers launched an armed attack on Jammu and Kashmir to annex it. Tribes in thousands along with Pak regular troops entered the State on October 22, 1947 from several points and indulged in loot, arson, rape, bloodshed and mayhem. Bowing before the wishes of the people and seeing his own regular army being out-numbered and to push back the invaders, the Maharaja signed the Instrument of Accession in favour of India on October 26, 1947 on the prescribed terms and conditions. This was accepted by the Governor General of India, Lord Mountbatten the next day. The Instrument of Accession executed by Maharaja Hari Singh was the same which was signed by other rulers of the other princely States. Similarly, the acceptance of the Instrument of Accession by the Governor General was also identical in respect of all such instruments.

With J&K becoming legal and constitutional part of Union of India, Indian army rushed to the State to push back the invaders and vacate aggression from the territory of the State. The first batch of Indian Army troops arrived at Srinagar airport immediately after the Accession was signed. On October 30, 1947 an Emergency Government was formed in the State with Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah as its head. The Army fought sustained battle with the tribals/Kabayilies and after several sacrifices pushed them out of the Valley and other areas in the Jammu region. (Earlier Brigadier Rajendra Singh Chief of State Forces with a small number of soldiers at his disposal fought valiantly with the enemy and laid down his life in the process.)

Meanwhile, the people of Kashmir under the towering leadership of Sher-I-Kashmir were mobilised and they resisted the marching columns of the enemy. Till the arrival of India troops, it was mainly the Muslim volunteers under the command of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who braved death to push back invaders. While the army pushed back the invaders, there were several instances where people put up a gallant resistance and stopped the advancing invaders. The most glaring examples of people’s resistance were the martyrdom of Mohammad Maqbool Sherwani and Master Abdul Aziz both staunch followers of Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Abdullah. Sherwani did not oblige the invaders when they enquired from him the route to Srinagar. Instead, he put them on a wrong track gaining time for troops to reach Srinagar from New Delhi. Somehow the tribesmen came to know about his tactics and nailed him at a Baramulla crossing and asked him to raise pro-Pakistan slogans. He did raise slogans but these were different. These were pro-Hindu-Muslim unity and in favour of Sher-i-Kashmir. Enraged by this, the ruthless tribesmen emptied their guns on him. The sacrifice of Master Abdul Aziz too was exemplary. The invaders who raped the nuns and wanted other non-Muslim women to be handed over to them, Master Abdul Aziz, a tailor by profession, held the holy Quran in his hand and said that they can touch the women only after they pass over his dead body and the holy Quran. The brutal killers did not spare him either.

On January 1, 1948 India took up the issue of Pak aggression in Jammu and Kashmir to UNO under Article 35 of its Charter. The Government of India in its letter to the Security Council said, ӅSuch a situation now exists between India and Pakistan owing to the aid which invaders, consisting of nationals of Pakistan and tribesmen… are drawing from Pakistan for operations against Jammu and Kashmir, a State which has acceded legally to the Dominion of India and is part of India. The Government of India requests the Security Council to call upon Pakistan to put an end immediately to the giving of such assistance which is an act of aggression against India. If Pakistan does not do so, the Government of India may be compelled, in self defense, to enter into Pakistan territory to take military action against the invaders.” After long debates, cease-fire came into operation on the midnight of January 1, 1949. Eventually, India filed a complaint with the UN Security Council, which established the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP). Pakistan was accused of invading the region, and was asked to withdraw its forces from Jammu & Kashmir. The UNCIP also passed a resolution stating: “The question of accession of the state of Jammu & Kashmir to India or Pakistan will be decided through the democratic method of free and impartial plebiscite”. However, this could not take place because Pakistan did not comply with the UN resolution and refused to withdraw from the State. The international community failed to play a decisive role in the matter saying that Jammu & Kashmir is a “disputed territory”. In 1949, with the intervention of the United Nations, India and Pakistan defined a ceasefire line (“Line of Control”) that divided the two countries. This has left Kashmir a divided and disturbed territory up till now.

In September 1951, free and fair elections, as per the Constitutional modalities, were held in Jammu & Kashmir, and National Conference party under the leadership of Sheikh Abdullah came into power. With the advent of the Constituent Assembly of the State of Jammu & Kashmir representing the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the State became an integral part of India constitutionally. After Sheikh Abdullah; Bakshi Gulam Mohamad, G.M.Sadiq, Mir Qasim,Gul Shah,Mufti Sayed and Dr.Farooq Abdullah ruled the State as Chief Ministers. Mr.Gulam Nabi Azad is the current Chief Minister of the J&K State.

Though the governments ran smoothly over the years, continued instigations and arousing religious frenzy by Pakistan did not stop. The year 1965 saw a war between India and Pakistan claiming so many lives on either side. A cease-fire was established and the two countries signed an agreement at Tashkent (Uzbekistan) in 1966, pledging to end the dispute by peaceful means. Five years later, the two again went to war that resulted in the creation of Bangladesh. Another accord was signed in 1972 between the two Prime Ministers — Indira Gandhi and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto — in Simla. After Bhutto was executed in 1979, the Kashmir issue once again flared up.

During the 1980s, massive infiltrations from Pakistan were detected in the region, and India has since then maintained a strong military presence in Jammu & Kashmir to check these movements along the cease-fire line. India says that Pakistan has been stirring up violence in its part of Kashmir by training and funding “Islamic guerrillas” that have waged a separatist war since 1989 killing tens of thousands of people. Pakistan has always denied the charge, calling it an indigenous “freedom struggle.”

In 1999, intense fighting ensued between the infiltrators and the Indian army in the Kargil area of the western part of the state, which lasted for more than two months. The battle ended with India managing to reclaim most of the area on its side that had been seized by the infiltrators.

In 2001, Pakistan-backed terrorists waged violent attacks on the Kashmir Assembly and the Indian Parliament in New Delhi. This has resulted in a war-like situation between the two countries, with Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf asking his army to be “fully prepared and capable of defeating all challenges,” and the then Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee saying, “We don’t want war but war is being thrust upon us, and we will have to face it.”

Plight of Pandits (Hindus)

The Pandits, who are the Hindu community of Kashmir and have an ancient and a proud culture, have been amongst the most afflicted victims of the Pakistani-supported campaign of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.. Their roots in the Kashmir Valley run very deep. They are the original inhabitants of this beautiful valley. Their number being small and peace-loving by nature, they have been the soft targets of terrorists. Virtually the entire population of 300,000 Kashmiri Pandits have been forced to leave their ancestral homes and property. Threatened with violence and intimidation by Muslim fundamentalists, they have been turned into refugees in their own country leaving behind their shops ,farms, cattle and age-old memories. .As a matter of fact, Jammu and Kashmir has become a target of Pakistan, sponsored by religion-based terrorism. The persecution by Muslim extremists of the Hindu minority and the systematic religion-based extremism of terrorist elements has resulted in the exodus of these Hindu/Pandits and other minorities from the Kashmir Valley to other parts of India. Fundamentalists and terrorists have also targeted and assassinated Muslim intellectuals and liberal Muslim leaders too, who spoke of Hindu-Muslim unity and brotherhood. Terrorist acts by Kashmiri militant groups have also taken place outside Jammu and Kashmir.

India claims most of the separatist militant groups are based in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir (also known as Azad Kashmir). Some like the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front(JKLF), demand an independent Kashmir. Other groups such as Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed favour a Pakistani-Kashmir. Of the larger militant groups, the Hizbul Mujahideen, a militant organisation is based in Pakistan administered Kashmir. Sources reveal that Al-Qaeda too has a base in Pakistani Kashmir and helping to forment terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

India is unwilling to lose even one additional inch of his land. New Delhi is also concerned that Kashmiri autonomy would set a precedent for breakaway movements in other Indian states (e.g., Punjab or Assam). To Pakistan, Kashmir is symbolic of its national ethos and commitment to protect Muslim interests against Indian encroachment. It believes that the creation of a separate, strongly sectarian nation is incomplete without contiguous Kashmir .In brief, Kashmir is a target of externally sponsored religion-based terrorism. The aim is to divide people on the basis of sectarian affiliation and undermine/weaken the secular fabric and territorial integrity of India.

However, as and now with the passage of time, the passion of the Jehad/movement which once had the mass public support has started declining since it has turned out to be a movement run by those who are more interested in their own personal gains. Confusion within the separatist groups too has weakened the movement. The hard liners led by Jamat-e-Islami advocate total merger of Jammu and Kashmir, with Pakistan whereas the soft liners led by J.K.L.F (Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front) stands for total independence of J&K. This has given rise to a totally confusing and conflicting situation resulting in disillusionment, disarray and disinterest of the common man in Kashmir who has suffered a lot for the past 18 years and is not prepared to suffer any more.

As unfortunate as it is, we live in a world where women need to worry about their safety in both their public and private lives. Sexual assault statistics are as high as ever, indicating that women from all socio-economic backgrounds are being attacked on the street and in their homes. This has led many women to look for a program to teach them to defend themselves. But which self defense for women classes are the right ones to attend?

For some women, martial arts schools are very accessible, as they are prolific around the United States and are especially popular in suburban areas. However, traditional and franchise martial arts programs are not designed for self defense, especially women’s self defense. Although programs such as Tae Kwon Do and freestyle Karate are great sports and can be great exercise, their application to real life is minimal. Look for a program that is specifically designed for self-defense and for women.

When looking for a women’s self defense program, it is important to choose a program that spends time talking about prevention of physical confrontations. The best self-defense technique is to never have a situation escalate to physical contact; but you need to know what to look for and how to react.

A good women’s self defense program will include techniques while you are standing and while you are on the ground. Many programs put heavy emphasis on striking while you are on your feet, but the reality of most fights and defense scenarios is that they end up on the ground. Being able to move yourself and properly contact your opponent on the ground is a skill, not something that is instinctual. Keywords to look for are “grappling”, “ground fighting” or “Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu” when shopping for a program.

Having at least one woman instructor in the program is beneficial. Many men do not realize how big they are or how much stronger their upper body is than a woman’s and, therefore, teach techniques that are not the most effective ones for a woman to perform. If you have a woman instructor, they are more likely to teach you the techniques that work for them, for their strength and size.

Lastly, a good women’s self defense program designates a lot of time to repetition and is spread out over a decent amount of time, such as a six-week program. A one-time, two-hour seminar is not enough time or repetition to really ingrain the techniques into your body and mind, especially if you have never done martial arts before.

It is so important for women to learn to defend themselves and feel confident in their level of safety. Do your research, grab a friend, and get started!

Beginning with my being a NYPD detective for 20 years, now retired and currently working as a New York state private investigator, I feel that I have the knowledge and experience to share with you some valuable advice for people on how you can and should take some responsibility for keeping yourselves safer; and for those of you who want to learn more about preventing yourselves from being a victim of crime, in this day and age.

As a detective in one of the busiest and largest cities in the world, New York City, I have come across thousands of victims; many were unable to avoid their fate no matter what they did. There was a large group that would have been able to prevent themselves from becoming victims by following these simple rules. ….

Following is some advice you can use to minimize your risk in becoming a VICTIM of a CRIME. Much of this advice is basic common sense! In this forum I will address some of the issues and how to handle them, along with some examples for you! As I go along, you may realize and tell yourself, “I knew that!” Yes, you may then recognize what makes sense when it is pointed out, however, are you really doing it in your daily life? Are you making a conscious effort in making and keeping yourself aware, paying attention, and listening to your own ‘gut instinct?’ If you don’t, then you need to learn what to do and put it into practice, make it ‘second nature,’ or natural for you to do. The more comfortable and natural it feels for you to do, the more it will aid you in how not to be a victim!

Let me start with, be aware of your surroundings. It takes very little to be observant. While leaving, while on your way and while arriving at your destination i.e. home, office, restaurant, events, etc., take notice of who and what is around you! The main advantage a criminal has on you is the element of surprise!

If you look like a victim there is a greater chance that in fact, you will become a victim. To clarify this, the ‘bad guy’ does his homework on body language. He knows for every person that is aware of their surroundings, there will be several people following that are not paying attention to what and who is around them, and he will target those individuals, which are now the prime candidates to be one of his victims. Who do you think he will go after? Could you be his next victim?

You look like a victim when you are oblivious to your surroundings; i.e. you are always looking down instead of looking forward and around you while walking; if you are too focused on talking on your cell while walking; if you appear lost and overwhelmed; if you are tipsy and/or drunk; and if you appear timid instead of confident in what you are doing, or where you are walking. Remember; do not confuse CONFIDENCE with ARROGANCE! Being arrogant can sometimes get you into more trouble then being timid. Use a glance, do not stare him down! Being or appearing arrogant can bring on a confrontation with the ‘bad guy’ because of egos. If you carry yourself with some confidence, it can reduce your chances and the percentage of being a victim. Even, if someone isn’t really confident they should, at least, portray themselves as confident and be aware of their surroundings, to aid in their own safety, especially when they are walking, and/ or traveling, alone!

I often see many prime victims in the heart of NYC. For example, if you just stand in front of the Waldorf-Astoria at 5 p.m. on any given day you will see 90% if not higher of the women who walk by are looking down at the ground. When I’ve asked people that I know who consider themselves street smart, why they do so, they respond with, “That was to avoid conversation.” So I explain to them, that they can still keep their head up, glance at those around, but that they should just continue to walk at a quick pace and that too will help avoid conversation. I’ve also asked if they could identify anyone that they’ve walked passed or who has passed by them? Usually they reply, “no.” And I often come back with a response such as, “You might have been able to identify their sneakers!” Most of the time they, then, get my point! There is nothing more frustrating to many detectives then a victim saying I didn’t see his face and I can’t I.D. him. In the event of a crime, often, unless someone else comes forward for the most part, the criminal has gotten away with the crime.

For the most part, I tell people not to put yourself in compromising situations, which I know is at times, easier said then done. Although, if you find yourself in a unavoidable situation that makes you feel uncomfortable, or ill at ease, I have some information and advice on better ways to handle the situation, by being prepared and ready to react appropriately!

One example, of an unavoidable situation is that you are in your office building later then usual and you are going to leave and are waiting to take the elevator, when the door of the elevator opens there is an unknown lone male inside. Often a person will go ahead and get on the elevator even when she (he) gets an uneasy feeling. She (he) may think that don’t want to show fear to themselves or others; that they feel silly and embarrassed, or they feel they are ‘just being paranoid’ and ‘overreacting,’ however, those are times when a crime can be and has been committed. However, you are better off to think and to know that you are much better off being ‘safe then sorry!’ The better option really, in a case like this, is to be preventative! To think of your safety first! So you should always be prepared for and be thinking that if, or when, a scene such as this occurs, you act as if you’ve forgotten something, don’t get on the elevator and walk away, letting the elevator go on without you. Wait a bit, and then try again! It will not change your schedule that much, but it is a means to keep you safer, just in case! More often then not, the man will not be on there the next time the door opens. However, if the same man is on the next time and he appears to be riding the elevator for no apparent reason then, DO NOT get in the elevator and do go back to your office, locking doors and phone security or call 911. You will not be the first person to call Police about a suspicious individual; in fact you could very well be stopping a crime and you being a victim. I responded to many suspicious calls and I can’t ever remember being annoyed at the person who called, if in fact they identified themselves.

Another example of being prepared and looking out for safer options is to park near the elevator or stairs if using a parking garage while at work or the office. If you weren’t able to find a space close to one of these, then I advise you to try to move your vehicle to a better space closer to one or the other, during a break or at lunchtime. However, just by being closer to the elevator or stairs does not mean you should be less aware or less prepared of your surroundings. Still be prepared when you are going to your vehicle. Have your keys out, don’t be fumbling with your pocketbook (purse), look in the windows to check the rear seats and/or back cargo area prior to entering your vehicle. Some people have been able to get into cars and will re-lock the doors, leaving you unsuspecting. If you have mace, or another personal protection device, have it out and don’t put it away until you have entered the vehicle and are pulling out. In this day and age, many people do carry mace or some other protection with them, however, when you ask them where it is they will tell you it’s in my purse or my pocket. My reply is always the same, “Are you going to ask him for a timeout, so that you can take it out and spray him?” I don’t think he will give you the time!

In addition, you should manually lock your doors. I know that many car doors automatically lock today, so the tendency is to think they will lock on their own. One problem with that thinking is that the doors don’t lock, until the vehicle is moving at 5-15 mph. So lock them even before putting your key in the ignition.

A lonely street is another example or situation that can be problematic, and that you should take into account while looking out for your own safety. You should have your mace with you, in your hands and ready to use if need be, for one. Also, if you find yourself walking down one and sense someone following or see someone coming towards you, crossing the street can be and is another preventative measure which just adds a few steps to your walking, but may well be what helps you stay safe. One more measure you can use is to enter 911 on your cell phone ready to push send, if need be, as a call for help. Today, many of the newer phones are equipped with a GPS chip, so the call can be located and even the phone can be tracked.

In all of the above scenarios (yes you probably will find yourself in one of them at one time or another) so BE PREPARED TO REACT!!!! Let me explain what I mean as far as reacting. Self defense courses and martial arts are great, and yes, I believe in them very much, however, the drawback is you have to be trained in them. If it’s a passing fancy and you take just a couple of classes, or if you think that several initial classes will make you an expert that isn’t the case. I had a drill instructor who told us, “We taught you just enough martial arts to get you hurt, so don’t go downtown and confront everyone!” Many people are equipped with various protective devices (i.e. MACE, loud alarms, whistles, lighted key chains, pepper spray, etc.) this is your way of preparing to react. Just have them available and ready. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY!

Another situation I’ve come across, which could be entitled, “you can’t tell a book by it’s cover,” was when a well dressed man in a suit confronted a lone female in a mall parking lot and told her that his car wouldn’t start, asking if she help him by using her vehicle to help jump his car. She didn’t have any jumper cables, but he assured her that he always traveled with them and that he only needed a short ride to his car and the use of her car to start his. Seeing that he was a middle aged, well dressed business type, she agreed. Mistake # 1! When she pulled up the man got out of the vehicle, and he opened the trunk of his car, however, she began to get suspicious, so she went with her instincts and stated that she had to go back into the store to get something for her husband which she forgot, turned off the car and returned quickly into the mall. When inside she called security. A check of the vehicle revealed that in the trunk of his car were gloves, duct tape, rope and a knife. This was a very lucky lady! So remember no matter how they are dressed they can still be a ‘bad guy.’ This is another reason that demonstrates you should ALWAYS GO WITH YOUR GUT FEELING! It’s always better to be safe then sorry!

I know that many women tell their children not to go with any man that they don’t know when he tells them that ‘his cute little dog is lost,’ yet, there are many of you as adults, who may feel that you can handle things well enough, however, don’t you fall for these games, yourselves! Heed your own advice!

In every city, big or small, there are locations and neighborhoods that even the people who live there don’t venture out at night. Unless you have particular business in those areas, the best thing you can do is to stay clear of those areas, especially, if you are alone. However, if you feel you must go, then be aware and prepared! This is some of the advice, examples and ideas of protection devices useful aiding you, so you won’t become a victim!

Unfortunately, violence against women is a centuries old reality.

According to Bureau of Justice statistics 17 percent of women can expect to be raped in their lifetime. In 2004 for every 1000 people there is one rape or sexual assault, two assaults with injury and 2 robberies-that’s a one in five chance that you are going to be next.

Statistics show that every two and a half minutes someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted. And while the numbers show an increase, the scary part is there are still 39 percent of rapes in 2002 that went unreported for a variety of legitimate reasons ranging from embarrassment, fear, or shock.

A self defense class should be part of every woman’s education. Why can’t it be taught in school?

Women’s self defense classes and training are available in books, seminars, DVD’s, and community classes. Practically every community offers some type of self defense class. They are available from the YWCA to the local police department, church groups to community organizations especially in college communities where assaults are generally higher. The opportunities are there. But so is the apathy. To me it is mind boggling at the lack of interest in this topic.

A class or course in self defense cAn prepare women for what may be inevitable-an assault at some point in their lives. A 6 hour DVD course in the comfort of your own home will teach you the basic skill set needed to prevent or cure the common assault by kicking an assailant’s butt.

They can learn how to build confidence, how to use keys as a weapon, how to use verbal self defense, simple postures and ways to act can prevent an assault from becoming fatal. The list goes on and on.

SIX HOURS to learn the basics to cure the common assault. Take a class in pepper spray use, martial arts, how to fight dirty, even knowing how to behave: these are the basic tools needed to survive an attack. Do it at home, do it at church, do it at school, do it at your police department, do it in your community center, do it in your dorm-JUST DO IT.

And then once you have learned the skill set, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE Start learning at an early age and continue thru your life with practice.

SIX HOURS to cure the common assault. Is that too much?

The Military Institutes Hand to Hand Combat Training
by: Jake Ross

Although formalized instructions in hand to hand combat became a paramount concern to military experts around the world during the Second World War, a person interested in the development of hand to hand combat techniques and training in the 20th century actually needs to step back in time to World War I. Indeed, it was during World War I — the infamous Great War — that trench warfare and hand to hand combat became viciously intense and forever changed the face of modern military combat.

During World War I there were more than 40,000 kilometers — more than 24,000 miles — of trenches along the Western front alone. It was within and around these trenches that some of the most brutal and horrific hand to hand combat in all of history occurred. In the aftermath of the conflict, the leaders of many of the countries involved in the Great War concluded that their own forces simply were not well prepared when it came to hand to hand combat. As a result, many countries moved to implement very specific hand to hand combat training regimens within their basic military training programs.

As World War II emerged on the horizon, countries including the United States and United Kingdom focused a great deal of time and energy in military training on hand to hand combat techniques. In point of fact, at some point during this period in the United States, the motto that was emblazoned on a Marine training facility was:

“Let’s be damned sure that no boy’s ghost will ever say, ‘If your training program had only done its job.’”

Doing the job — getting the job done effectively — included intensive hand to hand combat training. Training in the ways and means of hand to hand combat became crucial. Ultimate military success and defeat of the enemy might well depend on how well soldiers were trained in hand to hand combat during the Second World War.

Interestingly, in the United States (and in other Allied nations), when it came to training servicemen for hand to hand combat, a great deal of time was spent implementing what were essentially martial arts techniques and practices as well as submission fighting skills. These hand to hand combat techniques largely were of Oriental origin; many of these techniques were created or refined in Imperial Japan, the nation that ultimately pulled the pin that brought the United States fully onto the World War II battlefields in both Europe and the Pacific.

Since hand to hand combat instruction became an institutionalized part of the basic training regimen, learning hand to hand combat principles and techniques has remained an elementary part of basic training regimens the world over. Indeed, even in the early 21st century, hand to hand combat training programs are well ingrained and major components of basic training regimens across the globe.

On my journey to find the best self defense system I uncovered what I intuitively already thought was true. This truth is that the most simplest move or technique is usually the best and most effective. You can search high and low and learn the most intricate and deadliest martial art out there. But what good is it going to do you if cannot perform it under stress or if it takes ten years to become proficient at it?

The largest barrier to self defense is your mental state. Everyone reacts differently but most people will initially freeze up when faced with a life threatening situation. The only way to work past this mental state is through realistic practice with a partner and by knowing the most vulnerable areas to attack on another human being.

I absolutely do not recommend practicing the following self defense moves full force or full speed on your partner. Instead you want to practice them slowly and deliberately so that you will have them hard wired into your brain and your muscle memory will take over when the pressure is really on!

The following targets and descriptions of the basic self defense moves are violent and graphic. I have watered down my language describing them so as not to offend some people. Obviously great care should be taken not to injure your training partners. When training with a partner you should stop before the point of injury and visualize continuing all the way through the target.

The best way to practice them is to have your partner put you in a situation and your job is to go slowly and identify a vulnerable area and practice accessing that target from whatever situation you may find yourself in.

The following moves and targets are given in no particular order.

Self Defense Move #1 – The Eye Gouge

This one is pretty straight forward however it warrants some discussion.

Us “normal” people have a natural aversion to harming another human being. Attacking someone’s eyes is absolutely no exception. Morgues are full of people who left scratch marks all over their attackers face but for some reason they never had the nerve to stick their finger or preferably their thumb directly into the eye socket of their attacker.

I am not talking about scratching at the eyes here either. I am talking about sinking your thumb all the way in up to your knuckle at the inside corner of the eye, rupturing the eyeball and then dragging your thumb knuckle deep all the way across and to the opposite corner of the eye.

This will definitely cause a reaction from your assailant that will buy you time to escape to safety. The police should have no problem identifying your attacker at the local hospital emergency room either!

What if they have glasses on? Simple you slide your thumb from the cheek bone up and under the glasses. I could elaborate on proper technique but that would make for a much longer article.

Self Defense Move #2 – The Ear Slap

A good and properly performed slap on the ears will at worst disorient your attacker and at best rupture their ear drums sending them crumpling to the ground in pain. Let’s say for example that someone has grabbed you in a bear hug from the front underneath your arms and is carrying you off to their trademarked creepo van.

You know where his arms are! He has left himself wide open and defenseless!

For some reason or another you have decided not to gouge the eyes. Maybe you are saving the eye gouge as your last option if the ear slap does not work. Anyways the critical component of this technique is to cup your hands just like you would if you were clapping loudly at a sporting event. No opera claps here! With both hands cupped you “clap” or “slap” both ears at the same time. If you only have access to hitting just one ear that will do just fine too!

The important thing is that it should be a good hard clap with a cupped hand. This point is critical. Your fingers should also be pressed tightly together. The cupped hand creates a vacuum which ruptures the ear drum of your attacker.

Take care with your training partner here! Do not actually clap over your training partner’s ears. This can cause permanent damage and a lifetime of pain for your partner! For practice just go slowly and keep your fingers spread open to avoid an accidental injury. In real life keep your fingers tight together and hand cupped.

Also in real life you are aiming to have the center of your palm seal your attackers ear canal.

One word of warning! How you practice usually dictates how you will actually strike when the real pressure is on. So you may want to improvise and practice an ear slap on an empty Javex bottle or something like a watermelon that your training partner is holding up. If you get to know the feeling of performing this technique properly you will be able to tell the police to look for the guy with a ruptured ear drum at the hospital emergency room. Injuries make it so much easier to identify your attacker!

Self Defense Move #3 – The Ball Buster

Nothing new here! If you can reach the testicles with your knee, foot or hand you have found one heck of a sensitive area!

The real issue here is launching your attack without setting off any radar. Guys are conditioned from a very young age to instinctively respond to any incoming threats to this vulnerable area. An attacker can usually respond in time to avoid most kicks because they see it coming and subconciously respond or flinch! Ideally you want to get close and use your knee because it flies under the peripheral view.

The goal is to kick or knee the testicles and follow through. In a self defense situation you are aiming to try and kick or knee them up through the groin area and try to follow through all the way up to their neck!

What if someone has grabbed you from behind in a bear hug over your arms? Stomp on their foot and get an handful of their family jewels and squeeze as hard as you can for as long as you can till the guy either drops to the ground or lets go. You want to squeeze until you feel something burst. Then you run to safety.

Self Defense Move #4 – The Throat

This self defense move can be lethal so do not mess around and take it easy on your training partner.

A strong forearm strike to the windpipe can cause enough damage to collapse the wind pipe and your attacker will suffocate. Surfaces that you can attack this area with are endless it can be a punch, edge of hand blow, forearm strike, elbow, hammer fist or even the webbing of you hand that is made when you make an “L” shape with your pointer finger and your thumb.

You can even place a cell phone inside your fist so that the bottom of the phone is just slightly protruding out the bottom of your fist and then you hammer fist the throat. The unforgiving structure of the cell phone is sure to cause serious damage.

The one thing to always remember is that a strike with to the throat area can potentially kill the other person. A strike to any area can potentially kill another person if they have the right pre existing medical conditions!

You can even take this target further and include what I call the “Ring Around The Collar”. The sides of the neck are vulnerable due to the nerves that run through this area. The back of the neck is where the brain stem is and is the one common connection between your brain and the rest of your body. Impacts to the entire “Ring Around The Collar” can cause serious life threatening injuries. Take special care of your training partner and never go full speed or full force on any of these areas. Use a light touch and slow controlled movement in practice. Practicing in this manner will build muscle memory.

Self Defense Move #5 – The Lower Leg

The vulnerable spots here while not immediately life threatening can lead to injuring your attacker either directly or indirectly. When I say indirectly I mean if you manage to break your attackers ankle and they go crashing down onto the side walk and split their head open.

If someone has grabbed you from behind tying up your arms the areas of the lower leg to aim for can look something like the following. You can use the edge of your foot, assuming that you are wearing shoes, and scrape as hard as you can down the attackers shin. This is should get them to loosen their grip! Whether you are wearing shoes or not you can stomp your heel as hard as you can directly onto the top of the attackers foot as high up and close as you can to where the foot meets the ankle.

How about if someone has knocked you to the ground and is standing over you? What you can do in this situation is bring your knee up and in line with the ankle and then lift up and place the front of your shin directly on their lower shin just slightly above the ankle joint. Then you press down and slam all your body weight across and down into the pavement.

The ankle joint attack takes practice. It can be done standing and stomping across and down. It can be done from the inside of their legs by rolling all of your body weight outwards.

You are looking to strike just above the to knobs that you can feel on each side of your ankle joint. This tears the ankle joint and sends your assailant either limping away or crashing down into the pavement.

Be careful with your partner. Go easy and go lightly. On the ankle attack you want to go slow and give your partner time to roll ahead of your pressure and simulate falling to the ground. Be careful. When in doubt go slow! Even if you are confident, go slow and do not injure your training partner!

Those are the five easiest and most effective self defense moves that just about anyone should be able to perform to stop just about any assailant. Seriously injuring your attacker will free you up and buy time to get to safety.

When your own life and safety is on the line a pain/compliance, pressure point kind of defense will usually do you no good because the second you release your attacker and try to make an escape they will have an opportunity to attack you one more time.

These moves can be deadly so the utmost respect should be taken when practicing them with a partner.

The five self defense moves discussed should only be used in situations that warrant extreme self defense and all other options have been exhausted.

Stay safe and respect your training partners!

Have a great day!

Have you ever heard day to day kidnapping news revolving around events like a mother kidnapping her own son from her businessman husband who abused their child? Or maybe you have heard cases like this: about a stepfather who kidnaps his step daughter then takes her out of the country to force his wife to pay him a fortune in order to get her back?

These types of cases of kidnapping are known as Parental Kidnapping, to be precise. While some people do it to free their children from abusive and tyrant spouses others do it deliberately for financial gain. Other reasons for parental kidnapping include neglecting the spouses needs, abuse of the children by the spouse, endangerment of the child and injustice.

Some parents feel that they have been ill-treated during the legal battle for the custody of their child. As a result they kidnap the child to satisfy their ego or they cannot do without their children.

A survey by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) has revealed that over 300,000 children are abducted every year. This huge number reflects how laws are needed, and they must be made very stringent in order to convict the offenders and instill fear in people who are planning similar acts.

In addition, one of the worst parts of kidnapping attempts is the effect on the children due to all this. It can cause serious harm for his future development including emotional development, bad behavior in school, malnutrition and violent tendencies.

Help and Resources

There is hope and help. Via the Internet, you can access the NCMEC site and speak to a Call Center Specialist if you have speakers and a microphone with your computer. You can also insert the NCMEC RSS feed into your feed reader to keep abreast of missing children. Stay in tune with Amber alerts, too, either via wireless or other channels. And you can also register to volunteer in your area should a child ever turn up missing; handling out posters, handling phone calls, etc.

Learn more and reach out by writing to: National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, Charles B. Wang International Children’s Building, 699 Prince Street, Alexandria, Virginia 22314-3175 USA. Call them at: (703) 274-3900; or fax: (703) 274-2200; or visit them online at: http://www.missingkids.com . Report any information about kidnapping attempts and parental kidnapping to their 24-hour Hotline by dialing: (800) THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678).

Having a child abducted is the biggest fear a parent can face, and no parent wants to even imagine this situation presenting itself. To assist the authorities with locating a missing child, the use of a child identification kit can speed up the return of a loved one. The first 48 hours are the most critical when it comes to locating and saving a missing child. A preferred Child Identification Kit usually contains the following vital information for your child, recent photos, fingerprints, dental records, hair samples and other pertinent information about your child in one secure and convenient location. This could save the life of a child!

The Secret to Happiness and Maslow’s Hierarchy
by: Bill Boyd

“The secret to happiness is contentment” (Dali Lama)

If we are content with what we have, and where we are, then we are happy.

This means not grasping for attainment of material objects or even spiritual understanding, but being content and just allowing life to happen.

How does this help us to achieve the things we “want”?

I’m glad you asked! This brings me to Maslow’s theory on the hierarchy of human “needs”, the answer to that question is revealed within the following explanation and its accompanying story.

Maslow, was an eminent Psychologist who developed a theory on the psychological need of humans; it is often demonstrated in the form of a pyramid, and referred to in relation to Education, Motivation and Sales training.

A summary of his theory would be: that we humans have “needs” that must be satisfied in an order of priority, before higher ideals can be achieved the lower ideals MUST be met.

The order of these needs doesn’t change from individual to individual, they are as follows:

1.	PHYSIOLOGICAL NEEDS, air, water, food, rest, exercise, etc

2.	SAFETY NEEDS, shelter, job security, retirement plan, insurance

3.	LOVE AND BELONGING, children, friends, partners

4.	SELF ESTEEM (1), fame, recognition, reputation, dignity

5.	SELF ESTEEM (2) Confidence, achievements, FREEDOM

If we don’t meet all the needs in the lower levels we will always be in deficit and be trying to meet them before we can obtain the highest levels of complete self actualization and FREEDOM.

Here’s a story I wrote to illustrate Maslow’s theory in a practical situation, it’s illustrated in a negative context because most of us will understand it better this way. Note: (L5) means level 5 as per above.

The following is based on a true story; some details have been changed to allow for publishing here.

A Person’s car breaks down on an old dirt road in the Barclay plains it’s a scorching 44 degrees in the shade, but there aren’t any trees to provide shelter, he’s in the middle of nowhere, outback, Australia.

He was on his way to Darwin to give a lecture on Self Defence. He had been giving these talks for some time now and really enjoyed sharing his knowledge, not for the respect that others gave him, but because he is a master of the subject and it felt good doing it. (L4/5)

At first he wasn’t concerned about the situation and he allowed his mind to be free and ‘take in’, the beauty of the landscape, he started to reminisce about his friends and family, wondering what they’re doing at that time, then he turned on the radio and drifted off to sleep.

When he woke up he realized that he was feeling lonely and would love to have someone to talk to. (L3)

After a few hours he started to feel a little uncomfortable and realized that he could be in some danger so he tried to think of a plan for his safety.

After some time he decided to head off in search for help.

It started getting dark and he became really worried; his senses were tuned into every sound. (L2)

Then he realized that he hadn’t eaten since breakfast and that he was hungry and thirsty. (L1)

After two more days his only thoughts were about finding water to stay alive, he wasn’t concerned about eating because his body knew it could survive for weeks without food, but only a few days without water.

So then his immediate concern was for the basic need of water.

SUDDENLY!! Someone jumped on him from behind, and started to choke him he couldn’t breathe! Then his need for air was stronger than his need for water!

It was only a joke; his best friend had come looking for him when he didn’t show up in Darwin on time.

He found the car then tracked his mate to where he found him, looking pretty rugged. Then as all good mates do, he decided to play a practical joke to give him a fright! They are still good friends today.

The end

The simple lesson here is this:

This story shows a person who had met all his needs and was at the highest level. He had truly manifested his dream into reality and how he quickly went into “Needs Deficit” (ND)

Clearly we must walk before we can run, If we can’t breath we aren’t worried about water, we NEED air, our ND is air; this is a very basic example.

To look at it another way we could say that; trying to be a highly regarded successful whatever (4/5) will not be possible if we are in ND of (1, 2, or 3).

Our ND needs attention first; this doesn’t mean that if we don’t have a house and family we can’t achieve our dream ambitions.

On the contrary it means that we should, let go of our graving, yearning and striving to achieve success at any cost type of attitude, and maintain our lower levels of needs so that we can open the path to the higher levels.

Many of us, myself included have been guilty of forgetting about our needs for friends and family when we are trying to obtain the higher ideals of success.

This area can be a particular problem with the internet, because it uses up so much of our time and attention.

If we maintain our basic needs we will be able share our dreams and talk about them and believe in them and be content and happy about them.

Thus allowing our dreams to manifest into reality.

Doesn’t it make sense that with this kind of thinking we will all be able to move on to the higher levels of self actualization?

Maintain your ND and believe in your DREAMS the rest will happen!

Are you prepared to defend yourself?

Firstly you must be fully prepared to defend yourself. Not half hearted you must be prepared to commit. As a woman you have a right to self defense. Yes of course there are times when it is best to just hand over your purse or even your car and walk away.

But…there are times when you either fight back or risk serious injury or death. What if I fight back and the attack is worse? Yes this is possible, but that kind of person was only interested in exerting power over and violence anyway.

Where self defense starts.

1.The first moment you feel threatened, you use your first two weapons.1.Your voice. Yell, scream, shout at your attacker, warn them to start away. Shout FIRE, not help. In this day and age many people are afraid to respond to a call of help. But, FIRE gets everyone’s attention.

2.Your distance. Create mental boundaries, perhaps 5 yards/metres, become aware, 3 yards/metres face the person, if they are coming at you, shout, yell scream.

How to use a weapon

If you watch movies, often the person using a weapon extends it towards the attacker. Unfortunately an aggressive person will laugh at this weak show of defense. They will easily step forward and take the weapon and perhaps use it against their victim.

If your weapon is your car keys. Hold them in your right hand, with a key protruding. Keep this hand buy your side or hidden against your stomach or chest. Slightly extend your left hand in a stop position towards the attacker’s chest. This means your left foot would be slight forward to create balance. Simply reverse if you are left handed.

This obviously sounds barbaric to a peaceful person. Firstly you are unlikely to cause serious injury and secondly you are acting in defense of your life.

The moment of attack.

At this moment you are shouting, As your attacker lunges at you they will try to grab your extended hand. At this point you withdraw left quickly and attack strongly with your right weapon. Next quickly kick the shin or stomp the foot, with lots of power.

PS If the weapon hand is stopped then you can use the balance of the person, while their hands are engaged with yours to attack their shins and feet. The moment they release you then use your weapon hand or free hand to attack.

A Good Example.

You have to move quickly and with force. But…you do not need to be strong. In Australia two strong young men broke into a residence. The owner responded to a noise and was confronted by these two men. One grabbed her by the throat, she responded by grabbing him by the ears and kneeing him in the groin. She called for help and some neighbours came to the rescue. Both men were arrested and charged.

What was special about this lady? Well she was an Olympic swimming champion, which is why this attack attracted so much media attention. But…what was most interesting is that she is 77 years old!

She wasn’t strong, she wasn’t young and fit, but she was able to take immediate action.

If you have a weapon such as keys or a pen, do not wave it in a threatening manner. As in the first instance it will be easily be taken away from you. Remember to keep it close and out of site. You need the element of surprise in your self defense.

A few common items you may have with you when out and about.

Key or keys, pen, lipstick tube, mobile phone, compact umbrella, hard glasses case, eye brow, or eye liner pencil, nail clippers,. These articles are not legally perceived as a weapon, as would be scissors’ or a pocket knife. And of course you can travel by air with most regular items.

It is important to practice your response moves. It is best to use a partner who is taller and heavier than you. They may need to wear protective eye wear. Because you will be reluctant to use force on your friend, it is useful to practice forcefully responding against a cushion against a wall.

Practice your shin kicks and foot stomps again on a solid spongy item on the floor or leaning against the wall. You can buy high density foam and wrap it around a solid item.

Front Sight And Concealed Carry

It was the birthday of Troy Harris. He was in East Baltimore, at 12:20AM on June 30th, and was shot several times. He was rushed to John Hopkins Hospital where he was pronounced dead 30 minutes later. Your birthday is supposed to be a day of celebration and joy, representing the miraculous moment you entered this world, not the moment you left. What could he have done? Well, Front Sight’s firearms training would be a start. It gives you gun training that you can’t find anywhere else. Not only that, it teaches the Color Code of Mental Awareness, keeping you aware of your surrounding. They also have a course to get you a CCW Permit. If he had been carrying and been aware of his surroundings, you could bet that this story would have turned out different.

You hear the phrase often, usually sprinkled in conversations pertaining to politics, the Second Amendment or guns in general, but are you still asking yourself, “What exactly is a CCW Permit?” Well, let me enlighten you! It stands for a Concealed Carry Weapons Permit… it is what allows you to carry a concealed weapon in the United States! Some states are called “Shall Issue” states, which means law abiding citizens can obtain one of these permits, while other states prohibit it. In addition, some states say you can only have a single handgun on your person and other states say you can have multiple weapons… including pistols, edged weapons, martial arts weapons or other self defense weapons. Depending on the state you are in, you might know the CCW Permit as a different name. You may have heard of a Concealed Handgun License, Concealed Defensive Weapon Permit, Concealed Deadly Weapon License, License to Carry, or something similar to these… but they all emphasize the main point of: in order to carry a concealed weapon, you must have a permit. How do you obtain one of these Concealed Carry Permits? Most states require you take a CCW Permit course, and it just so happens that the unsurpassed leader of firearms training schools offers one!

Front Sight Firearms Training Institute near Las Vegas, Nevada does offer a Concealed Carry Weapons Permit Course, so you can learn firearm mechanics, weapons terminology, concealed carry limitations, legal aspects of gun use, how to carry a weapon, GUN SAFETY, self defense firearms training, family protection, how to not have to use your we
1000
apon and so many other self defense techniques that will have you ready to obtain your concealed carry permit in just a few days! (You might have noticed that I emphasized gun safety. This is because Front Sight has a policy that safety is always first AND last… Dr. Ignatius Piazza, the founder and director of Front Sight and Four Weapons Combat Master, knows that firearms safety is the most important thing about gun training!)

However, CCW Permit courses are NOT the only thing you can learn from Front Sight! Dr. Piazza has an extensive list of gun training courses and other weapons training courses that you can choose from, giving you the opportunity to have the self defense training YOU want and need. From handgun training to rifle training to shotgun training to automatic weapons training (YES! Front Sight offers UZI Submachine Gun training and Select Fire M16 training) to edged weapons training to martial arts training and empty hands self defense training to rope training to CHILD SAFETY training and YOUTH SAFETY training to climbing training… you name it! No matter what your self defense training desires are, Dr. Piazza and his team of professionally schooled firearms training instructors and self defense training instructors are there to help you! In ONE WEEKEND (no, that is not even an exaggeration) you can walk away with gun skills that you would not believe. If you want to have firearms skills and weapons handling techniques that outshine ninety nine percent of the gun owning population, come to Front Sight. You will not be disappointed.

The most common situation when women are raped is when they go on a blind date. Situations like this require knowledge of women’s self defense. There are ways you can protect yourself if you do not know physical techniques through martial arts. These methods include carrying stun guns and mace with you at all times.

Blind dates are one of the most common ways to meet a new boyfriend. You might have a friend that knows a friend and then everything goes from there. The problem is that the friend that hooked you up really didn’t know the person well and they might not even know their last name. When you go on a blind date you put yourself in a vulnerable situation, especially if you don’t double and he is driving. You must carry protection on you. It is important to understand women’s self defense so you have the opportunity to get away if he does turn out to be a dangerous person.

Stun guns are an excellent product for women’s self defense. The way these work is that they send wattages through the body, which stop the impulses of the brain that make the body work stop for a short period of time. These devices must be held against the person when you use them but they will immediately disable the attacker. Stun guns are small devices and you can purchase them that look like pagers and other devices if you want one that is disguisable. A stun gun is also non-lethal so you don’t have to worry about killing the person you spray.

Another excellent product for women’s self defense is pepper spray. Pepper spray can come in the form of a pen, a lipstick case, and more. This way you get the best opportunity to spray an attacker and get the best results. Pepper spray burns hot and it is one of the most effective ways to disable an attacker so you have time to run.

There are many ways to protect yourself when you go on a blind date. Most women raped on a blind date do not consider women’s self defense products until they have already been attacked. They are disguisable and easy to use. Stun guns and pepper spray are the best options because they are non-lethal and they will not kill the person when you get them. These items could actually save your life.

Jim Wilkinson is the Vice President of http://www.YourGreatestProtection.com

He has a background in Law Enforcement and Safety. He knows what is effective to keep you, your family and your home safe. His firm offers a variety of reasonably priced personal protection products such as tasers, stun guns, pepper spray, and hidden cameras.

Martial Arts Benefit – Self-discipline Improvement

Self-discipline is perhaps one of the most difficult traits to cultivate not just in others but especially in one’s self. Children naturally find it harder to learn self-discipline because they lack the experience and maturity to fully understand its value. But if you enroll your child in a martial arts school, self-discipline and a lot more positive traits are his to conquer in no time!

Why It’s Important for Kids to Learn Self-Discipline and Self-Control Early
While it is certainly your duty as a parent to teach your children how to differentiate right from wrong, it’s also important to train them early to make such decisions for themselves. If you allow your child to grow up depending on your authority and other external factors to determine the proper thing to do, he shall find himself helpless and incapable of doing what’s right even as an adult, much less care about the consequences of his actions.

When you teach your child self-discipline early, they take their first steps to growing up and taking responsibility of their actions. They begin to understand about the things they have to do not just because they’re told but because it’s right. They will understand, for instance, that homework, house chores, and even eating broccoli, are things they have to do, even if it’s somewhat unpleasant.

Self-control is naturally intertwined with self-discipline. It is impossible for one to exist without the other. Whereas self-discipline governs one’s ability to make decisions, self-control governs one’s control over his mind and body.

With self-control, your child learns early that it’s not right to let their angers rule their thoughts. They also to learn to exercise their will and use mind over matter.

The Benefits of Having Self-Discipline
Once your child attains self-discipline through martial arts, you’ll be surprised at positive impact it can have in his life.

More Self-Confidence
Greater self-discipline is equivalent to greater progress in martial kids. And with kids, their self-confidence tends to grow every time they move another level and the color of their belt changes.

Better Health
You’ll find self-disciplined kids easier to guide when it comes to proper nutrition, too. Your kids will be more
1000
willing to listen and obey once you explaining to them the benefits of eating lots of greens and avoiding too much junk food.

If they are struggling with weight problems, you’ll also find it easier to maintain the proper diet and exercise regime for them. Their martial arts sessions will naturally help in keeping them physically fit as well.

Improved Social Interaction Skills
Self-discipline also helps children develop positive social interaction traits. They become friendlier and although they may become more competitive, they also understand the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and equality. They also become more understanding of other children’s differences with them and avoid bullying or ostracizing other kids because of those differences.

Whether you’re looking for ninja grappling hook, kubotans or any other ninja gear and self defense products, be safe. Know where to get top quality

Self defense products are the furthest things from the minds of many women today. They go along with their routines either not thinking that they can help themselves in time of trouble, or not thinking trouble will come. The truth is that a large percentage of women will face violence in their lifetimes. There are many advantages in owning self defense items to help them protect themselves from harm.

1. Self defense weapons can be ready in case of an emergency. If you buy women’s self defense items, you will probably not use them every day. You will most likely keep them on hand just in case something terrible happens. If you purchase self defense items ahead of time, you will not be caught wondering how you will get out of the situation. You will be able to take your self defense into your own hands.

2. Self defense products can make you feel safer going to and coming from work. You may work early mornings or late nights. Coming and going in the dark presents a vulnerability to attackers lurking in parking garages and in stairwells. Well-applied pepper sprays will prevent an attack from taking place in many cases.

3. You can feel safer in the outdoors when you carry women’s self defense products. It is not uncommon for unsavory characters to hide along jogging trails or around parks, just waiting for unsuspecting victims. You can buy stun guns just made for outdoor activities, some designed to fit around your knuckles. They make it easy for you to protect yourself. You need not be confined to an indoor treadmill because you fear the possibility of an attacker.

4. You might want to use self defense items in defense of your home. Hidden spy cameras can show you what is going on when you step out for work or a social event. In the case of criminal activity, you can call in the authorities and even provide them video proof. If you have a break-in while you are at home, you can use tasers to immediately stop your attacker, giving you enough time to escape and call police.

5. You can protect your loved ones using women’s self defense products. Self defense weapons will certainly help you help yourself. However, it is also important to remember that they can be used to rescue those who depend on you. Mothers can fend off someone who is trying to attack their children by using stun guns or tasers.

6. Special self defense products make it easy to surprise attackers. Some pepper sprays are designed to come out of lipstick-style canisters or containers that look like beautiful rings. There are stun guns in the shapes of cell phones and flash lights. Your attacker will not know what hit him until it is too late.

Perhaps the biggest advantage to buying women’s self defense products is that they are far less expensive than the cost of being attacked. An assailant might stop at putting you in the hospital, or he might not stop until even a hospital will do you no good. All in all, self defense weapons give you advantages that are vital to your safety.

Pepper spray or a stun gun should be your new best friend with the holiday shopping season upon us.

It’s a well documented fact that crime and theft rise during the Christmas Season. Along with getting dark outside sooner, the darkness provides cover for the criminals making it very risky to go christmas shopping alone, especially for a woman at a large shopping mall that has a large parking lot. It does not take a brain surgeon to figure out that a 130 pound woman fighting off a 200 pound criminal what the out come would be. If your family is like my family, the women do at least 75% of the shopping. With all the families out there in the world, that’s a lot of easy targets for criminals. Even for men to shop alone, it’s just as risky. Most of our ordinary law abiding people do not have the skills to fight off a criminal that probably has some streetwise experience at fighting.

The good thing is there are some very good products available to protect us and our families. I will go over a few of these items so you will have some knowledge about the different products out there in the marketplace today.

1) PEPPER SPRAY:

Pepper spray is probably the simplest and cheapest of the self-defense products. There are several different types of pepper sprays used today. 17% pepper spray, 10% pepper spray, pepper foam, pepper gel, tear gas, Michigan approved pepper spray. There are even sprays to be used on bears and dogs. They also come disguised in different ways such as lipstick, pagers, ink pens, key chains, rings, jogging weights and more. Here is a list of differences between a few of the sprays.

A)OC PEPPER SPRAY:

Contains the ingredient called Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) which is a derivative of Hot Cayenne Peppers. OC causes the eyes to slam shut, with uncontrollable coughing and choking. It creates anintense burning sensation and disorients him for several minutes. Lasts 30-45 minutes. No long term effects.

B)TEAR GAS PEPPER SPRAY:

Causes coughing, irritation and watery eyes. This leads to profuse tearing, an intense burning sensation and disorientation. Some products like MACE Triple Action Pepper Spray, combine the benefits of tear gas with the “burning” effect of Pepper Spray to disorient an attacker.

C)PEPPER SPRAY FOAM:

Acts to “blindfold” and disorient an attacker and cause the same “burning” and closing of the eyes as traditional liquid pepper spray.

D)UV DYE … PEPPER SPRAY:

Is used in combination with OC pepper spray, Tear Gas pepper spray, or Pepper Spray Foam for easy identification by police of an attacker. UV (ultraviolet dye)is effective for a minimum of 72 hours.

2)STUN GUNS:

Stun guns are a very affordable electronic device that produces up to 1 million volts but very low amps making it non-lethal.

Just like pepper spray, stun guns come in several different types and volts. They also come disguised as cell phones, flashlights, batons and large pens. The size varies from fitting in the palm of your hand to large stun batons.

Some models have very useful features such as having a strap that you put around your wrist that is attached to a safety pen. In case a criminal should take it from you, the strap pulls the pen out making it useless, therefore the criminal cannot use it against you. Another model has a loud piercing built-in alarm.

It is foolish for people “large or small, men or women” not to have some form of defense. With the prices so affordable today, there is no excuse not to have it.

P.S. Happy Shopping!

How To Win Any Fight In Under 3 Minutes

These are dangerous times that we live in and this is reaffirmed by a daily read of the local headlines. From mugging to assault, these crimes seem to be taking place on an increasing frequency. It is only natural that under such circumstances that we should seek ways to protect ourselves. But just a daily lesson at the local karate joint is not going to do the trick for most of the martial arts being taught today are more glamorous than effective. It is crucial that we understand that we need more than being taught about how to break bricks with our hands. The e-book ‘How to Win any Fight in Under 3 Minutes’ sure seems to be singing the right tune when it comes to wining a street fight.

With a violent crime taking place every 22 seconds on a daily basis, it is no wonder that the crime rate of United States seems to be leading the rest of the world. It has become all the more apparent that we need much more than what any self defense seminar can teach us. Just a read of the ‘How to Win any Fight in Under 3 Minutes’ should be enough to set us on the right track with regard to self defense. The self defense classes of today seem to be more about ‘flashy’ moves than about ones that will actually work on the street. It is time that we take a close hard look at some of the techniques covered here in the ‘How to Win any Fight in Under 3 Minutes’.

The e book ‘How to Win any Fight in Under 3 Minutes’ has been penned by a person who knows how to win any fight, literally. Besides being a martial arts expert for nearly 20 years, he is an expert in both Taekwondo and Judo as well. Quite often, online e-books get penned by a person who do not khow what he or she is talking about, that certainly is not the case here. This e-book provides a window by which we can get the low down on the various techniques, both legal and the illegal fighting moves, so that we can protect ourselves against any threat [well, most of them anyway].

The ‘How to Win any Fight in Under 3 Minutes’ is not the kind of e-book that we would require in order to win a sporting championship since most of the techniques covered here are banned. But when it comes to learning how to defend ourselves, this e-book is the perfect place to start. Normally most of the self defense classes insist on fitness as the key to winning any fight. But as ‘How to Win any Fight in Under 3 Min
1000
utes’ points out, not all of us are perfectly fit. Does this mean that we are doomed to failure? Not so, for by utilizing the methods listed in this e-book, we should be able to protect ourselves, irrespective of our speed. This is indeed, a new and different way of looking at the much talked about topic, self defense.

How Safe Is Your Child With The Increase In School Violence?

Official figures that were released in July 2009 showed that in England 65,390 pupils were temporarily excluded for violence against other classmates. And this is on the rise compared to previous years. In some parts of the country figures were up by 110% on the previous years.

The shadow children’s minister said that “This is further evidence of the lack of discipline in our schools. It is vital that teachers are given control over the classroom so they can deal with bad behaviour before it escalates into violence”

However, this is not a situation that happens within the classroom. Violence and bullying within schools is more prevalent away from the direct supervision of teachers. On the whole these types of incidents happen either on the way to and from school or during break times.

While it is a fair enough expectation for parents to count on teachers to keep their children safe while at school, parents and teachers need to take responsibility for educating children how to protect themselves from this violence and bullying.

The other problem that exists here is teachers will effectively deal with the situation once it has happened, but not enough focus is put on pre-empting violent behaviour. Parents and teachers need to take a more proactive approach to stop these situations before they have a chance to become violent. They teach children proper self defence skills.

Self defence education should not be about teaching pupils to fight back though. Proper self defence training deals with the psychological aspects of aggressive and violent behaviour. Teaching children basic self defence skills will empower them to avoid violent behaviour effectively.

Rule #2: Be physically trained (participating in a self defense class/>the act, process, of imparting knowledge and skill): Physical training gives you the tools to maintain your personal security and is the single best way to be prepared. Why should you train in self defense? What are the benefits of self defense training?

Why should you train in self defense?

· Preparation: With any crime, the best way to avoid it is to be prepared. Self defense training is defense preparation. Good self defense training can prepare you to deal with an assault, robbery, attempted rape, not to mention the everlasting emotional effects of an attack.

· Insurance: You purchase house, auto, fire, and even life insurance to protect you and your family. What do you do to insure you personal safety? Self defense training is the insurance you need for your personal security against being a victim of crime.

· Crime: Generation after generation, laws have been passed and law enforcement has increased in numbers and still hasn’t been able to eliminate crime. Crime is here to stay; you can’t change that; however you can reduce the risks of being a victim.

· Statistics: University studies show women who don’t fight back more often lose in an assault. In fact 73% of all women 12 years old and up will become victims, with a third being robbed, assaulted, or raped. Unfortunately just being born a woman puts you at risk for certain crimes.

· Self Reliance: In today’s world people often look the other way rather than getting involved; you can’t rely on someone coming to your rescue.

· Knowledge: Learn what to look for, know how to avoid those threatening situations, and take steps to learn best possible methods to defend yourself is key to survival and escape from your enemy. That knowledge can be the difference between life and death.

What are the benefits of self defense training?

· Building Self Confidence: Being self confident helps you in every aspect of life. It empowers you to take control and be a stronger person. For example, offenders look for timid and weak targets, then walking tall and with confidence increases the odds in your favor.

· Peace of mind: Peace of mind comes from knowing that you have the proper training to defend yourself should the time come for you to use that training for defense.

· Physical Fitness: Training improves your balance, strength, stamina, flexibility, and posture, increasing your overall health.

· Stress relief: Stress is one of the number one causes of illness; through physical and mental conditioning you reduce your stress levels. Exercise improves circulation and increases your oxygen delivery while reducing anxiety.

· Discipline: By learning self discipline, you improve self control and ability to perform under pressure.

Can Martial Arts Tournament Combat Be Applied To The Streets!

A lot of problems that people experience within the martial arts tournament fighting is that it is a lot of fun. But on the other hand it has nothing to do with a real life or death fight on the streets. Things like points sparring and mixed martial arts are all filled with rules and regulations.

In this article I plan on covering the different aspects of a fight in a martial arts tournament versus a fight on the streets.

Martial arts tournament: There are rules, referees, and it is built and designed to be a friendly competitive contest. Punches and kicks that land are graded with points and the end result of such contests is to be the best sport martial artist. You can win trophies and have a lot of fun in a stress free atmosphere where you have practiced for weeks or months in preparation for the battles ahead of you.

Reality based self defense: Unlike a martial arts tournament, there are no rules and a fight or attack can happen anywhere at anytime. The rules of engagement in self defense include fighting extremely dirty, using moves that are banned from tournament competitions and being able to hurt the bad guy as quickly as possible.

You won’t be using a fancy round house kick to the head in a street attack. But if you do you will be in big trouble if it gets caught or you get thrown to the ground. Another aspect of reality based self defense is that unlike a grappling martial arts tournament, you don’t want a fight to go the ground on the streets.

I believe that joining and competing in martial arts tournaments is good for competition and better training with sparring, but don’t compare the two as if they go hand in hand because they don’t. What works in a tournament could get you killed on the streets so always keep that in mind.

It is just a fact that between 80-90% of all assaults on city streets are committed against women. While not all domestic violence is committed against women, probably 98% of all incidents are.

Women are targets of violence on city streets, college campuses, work place sexual exploitation, and at home. Women in particular have become targets when they travel in their cars, their hotel rooms, just about anywhere they go.

The old expression “knowledge is power” applies here. Being aware that as a woman you are potentially the target of a crime should give you a huge advantage. Then with that knowledge WHAT do you do with it?

Without being paranoid, get yourself prepared to defend yourself. That does two things.

1. It helps build self confidence-in the way you walk and talk.

2. It builds your self defense skills so you can defend yourself.

This is the most comprehensive and complete women’s self defense safety kit there is. It starts with the most popular cell phone stun gun and pepper spray on the market. The cell phone stun gun is 800,000 volts of body melting power. It has a lifetime warranty and comes with a holster, batteries and a disable pin that prevents its’ use if the pin is pulled out.

The Mace Triple Action Pocket Model pepper spray has a range of 6-12 feet with 10 % OC spray. A keychain alarm with light is included too. It has a 130 db alarm and a flashlight. To round out this great safety kit is the self defense DVD “Small Man’s Advantage” that teaches how to use your size to your advantage. It is geared to smaller men and women.

Finally a 35 page e-book on Women’s Self Defense Tips and a lifetime subscription to a self defense and home security tips newsletter is in the package. This women’s self defense safety kit has everything you need to keep you safe in a dangerous world at a substantial savings of over 20%.

Stun guns and pepper sprays are not legal in some states. Check with your local police department first before you get this safety kit.
